PDPM Updates to the MDS-RAI Manual and the Potential Impact on CMS PDPM Quality Monitoring
06/25/2019 at 3:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 06/25/2019
06/25/2019 at 3:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 06/25/2019 Presenter: Dan Ciolek, AHCA Associate Vice President, Therapy Advocacy. As providers prepare for the October 1, 2019 hard transition from the Resource Utilization Groups, version four (RUG-IV) skilled nursing facility prospective payment system (SNF PPS) to the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) it is important to monitor for updates from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that impact PDPM Implementation. On May 20, CMS issued an early, preliminary release of the MDS 3.0 RAI Manual v1.17 that contains many updates including information related to PDPM. In addition, CMS conducted a 2-day SNF Quality Reporting Program (QRP) Provider Training event on May 7-8 that included extensive discussions about the upcoming MDS changes, the alignment of PDPM with the SNF QRP, and how CMS intends to use MDS and SNF QRP data to monitor PDPM implementation. This webinar will provide an overview of the significant changes to the MDS-RAI manual and specific MDS data elements and quality measures described in these recent CMS updates that will most likely be monitored by CMS. Providers are encouraged to view this webinar and the CMS resources provided as accurate MDS coding will be essential for provider success with PDPM implementation.
Person-Centered Planning, An Essential PDPM Element
07/30/2019 at 3:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 07/30/2019
07/30/2019 at 3:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 07/30/2019 Speakers: Cathy Ciolek, DPT, FAPTA, President-Living Well With Dementia®, LLC; Kathy Greenlee, JD, Principal, PYA, P.C.; & Mike Cheek, Senior Vice President, Reimbursement Policy Description: The Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM) is a radical change to Medicare Part A fee-for-service Skilled Nursing Facility payment system. A PDPM fundamental element is that the payment system is “patient-driven.” Rather than therapy minutes as the basis for payment, PDPM uses patient-specific characteristics as the basis for payment. Flowing from the basis for payment being patient-specific characteristics is the expectation that plans of care also are highly patient specific and individualized. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has articulated its provider care planning expectations under PDPM as “holistic care planning,” “inclusion of patient voice in care planning,” and “highly individualized care.” And, the Agency has further elaborated upon how SNF focus upon these person-centered care planning concepts will aid providers in receiving adequate and accurate payment. Person-centered care planning also has been shown to be a sound business practice. 1. Understand the Basics of Person-Centered Care Planning 2. Learn About Alignment with Core Competencies Core Competencies 3. Hear About Evidence-Based Person-Centered Care Planning Strategies 4. Understand An Approach to Measure Successful Plan Development
11th hour PDPM Transition Guide
08/27/2019 at 3:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 08/27/2019
08/27/2019 at 3:00 PM (EDT)  |  Recorded On: 08/27/2019 Speakers: Mike Cheek, Senior Vice President, Reimbursement Policy, AHCA and Robin Hillier, Robin Hillier Consulting, LLC On October 1, 2019, the Medicare Part A Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) prospective payment system (PPS) will enter a new era with the implementation of the patient-driven payment model (PDPM). For more than a year the American Health Care Association (AHCA) had provided in-person and on-line educational programming as well as numerous tools and resources to help member SNF providers prepare for a successful transition to PDPM. Specifically, the AHCA PDPM training and resources focus on a principle that there are for core competencies a provider must demonstrate to be successful under PDPM including: 1) Understanding the new PDPM payment drivers, 2) Accurate collection of clinical information, 3) Strengthening clinical programming, and 4) Optimizing resources to support PDPM. With just a little over one month left before PDPM goes “live”, providers may be asking themselves: Have I covered all the bases? Is there anything I have missed? What else do we need to do to be sure everybody in our organization and our care delivery partners including physicians and referring hospitals are prepared for a seamless transition? During this 90- minute live webinar, the presenters will discuss how providers can use a concise and downloadable 11th hour PDPM Transition Guide tool we developed to help providers answer these questions over the remaining days leading up to October 1. In addition, the presenters will share important recent PDPM implementation updates from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) including: 1) Policy changes and clarifications discussed in the recently published SNF PPS FY 2020 Final Rule, 2) FAQs from the CMS August 8 SNF Open Door Forum call, 3) Key PDPM-related MDS updates/clarifications discussed in the CMS August 13-14 SNF QRP/MDS/PDPM two-day provider training, and) Any other billing guidance issued by CMS prior to the webinar. There will be a Q&A period of approximately 30 minutes following the presentation. In addition to the downloadable 11th hour PDPM Transition Guide tool and webinar slides, AHCA will also post an on-demand recording of the live webinar as well as written Q&A responses to all questions submitted shortly after the live webinar. Recommended Participants: SNF Administrators, Directors or Nursing, MDS Coordinators, Rehabilitation Directors, Billers, and other staff responsible for assessment of Medicare Part A SNF PPS residents.
