The Bronze Quality Award Workshop

Participants will respond to all criteria of the 2022 Bronze Award. Using a case study, lectures, videos, sharing and feedback, participants will complete a Bronze application for their center during the workshop. 

Learning Objectives:
  1. Participants will produce a complete or near complete Bronze application.
  2. Participants will become aware of ways by which the Bronze criteria can form the foundation for a robust quality improvement culture.
  3. Participants will become aware of ways in which preparing a Bronze application can help the facility set meaningful priorities.
  4. Participants will understand ways to leverage the insight gained through the Bronze application to align management, the workforce, priorities, and quality efforts.

National Quality Award Program Administrator, AHCA

Tim Case was the principal developer of the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program in 1993. For the past 26 years, Tim has been the Administrator of the program, which has grown to be the premier award for organizational quality in long-term care and the most extensive Baldrige-based program in the country.

Tim has served on the Virginia Tech College of Education faculty, as the Deputy Director of the Quality Care Health Foundation, as AHCA’s Senior Advisor for Quality, and as a Health Care Policy Analyst for the U.S Senate.

Tim holds graduate degrees from Virginia Tech and Michigan State University.

Tammy Q. Kelly PT, LNHA, RAC-CT, RAC-CTA is presently serving as Director of RAI & Clinical Reimbursement and a member of the Senior Management team at CCR, Inc.Tammy has been a Senior Examiner/Team Leader for the American Health Care Association Silver Quality Awards since 2007 as well as a Gold Award site visit examiner in 2017. She is currently in her second term on the AHCA Quality Award Board of Overseers, serving as BOO Chair for 2021 and 2022.

Wendy M. Walter, MA, LNHA

Wendy M. Walter, MA, LNHA has served in her current role of Regional Director of Operations at Commonwealth Care of Roanoke since April of 2012.  Prior to that Mrs. Walter served as Administrator in multiple facilities in Virginia.  Mrs. Walter began her journey with the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award program in 2008 by writing her first Bronze (then Step 1) application and continued by becoming an Examiner.  Ms. Walter continues to serve as a Senior Examiner and Team Leader at the Silver level. 



Duffy has been a nursing home administrator for over 15 years working in several states and various size buildings. He has also been a silver quality award examiner for 8 years, and a recipient of the Bronze and silver award. Duffy is the father of 5 wonderful children.  

Alana Wolfe

Sunrise Senior Living

Alana is a Quality Professional involved with the AHCA/NCAL Quality Award Program for more than 15 years, beginning as an applicant. She has served as both a Master and Senior Quality Examiner and Team Leader, a member of the Quality Award Board of Overseers, and is the immediate past Chair.  Alana has coached more than 350 award applications to recognition at the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. Additionally, she has served as a Baldrige National Examiner and supports the Alabama Performance Excellence Program as an Examiner, Trainer, Board Member, and Judge.
