Suicide and trauma are on the rise, and nearly everyone can identify a traumatic experience they’ve faced or know someone affected by suicide. This training program is designed to explore each of these topics in depth. The introductory module will review, at a high level, the topics of suicide, trauma, substance use disorders, grief counseling, mindset, self-care, and mindfulness-based stress reduction.

After participating in this session, learners will be able to:

  1. Discuss the impact of suicide in our country and how that will continue to change as our next generation, the Baby Boomers, move into our long term and post-acute care centers.
  2. Describe why substance use disorder is an important topic in long term and post-acute care centers.
  3. Discuss trauma and traumatic death and why long term and post-acute care centers should be prepared.
  4. Explain the benefits of grief counseling in your center.
  5. Identify strategies to increase prevention in your center.

Presenters: Pamela Truscott, DNP/HSL, MSN/ED, RN; Mariah Goldring, Coordinator
