This program revolves around the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulatory tag, F-755, and how it pertains to skilled nursing care. The core components of F-755 include pharmacy services, procedures, and service consultation. These components guide facilities to develop policies, procedures, and actions so they can manage the complex medication needs of residents safely – ensuring timely medication delivery and avoidance of errors. This regulation is designed to promote resident safety and accountability at the facility level. In this discussion, Rick, Alex, and Nicole discuss the elements of F-755 in detail, including examples in practice, tips for establishing a solid foundation in compliance with F-755, and what you should leverage with your pharmacy partner to help you provide the best medication management to your residents.
At the end of this program, the learner will be able to:
1. Identify the core regulatory elements of F-Tag 755 and describe its requirements for pharmaceutical services.
2. Explain why F-755 is a high-priority focus for operators and surveyors alike
3. Discuss how F-755 applies to nursing home care with the ever-rising resident acuity and medication complexity
4. Describe how F-755 intersects with controlled substance management, recordkeeping, and diversion-prevention expectations
5. Outline practical methods and tools facilities can use to evaluate their processes and improve compliance with F-755
6. Identify what makes a pharmacy partner stand out when supporting and providing resources to facilities to meet the framework of F-755
